A trip to Switzerland …

Virtuoso Chairman’s Event (October 2013)

F. Peter Herff II

Recently, I returned from a week in Switzerland, attending a meeting in this gem of a destination, located in the very center of the European continent.

Switzerland is a country of many contrasts, from its three languages, to its high mountain terrain, to deep glacier lakes and urban centers, like Zurich and Geneva (two of the most delightful cities in Europe).

Switzerland has something for everyone.  In a country where the food is over the top and everyone speaks one of three languages. French in the West, German in Zurich and its environs and Italian in the South.  Yet another language spoken, not too familiar to many people, is Romansh and of course English is spoken all over the country.

With easy access to other destinations in Europe, Switzerland has 5 different countries that touch its borders: France in the West, Italy to the South, Austria and Lichtenstein to the East and Germany to the North.

One very well kept secret, Switzerland has awesome wines, mostly grown along the shores of Lac Leman.  These wines are so good the Swiss never share them with the rest of the world, so to enjoy this integral part of Swiss cuisine one must come to this land, whose official name is still Confederation Helvetia.

The Alps, as the Swiss mountains are known, collectively still beckon those wanting to ski in winter or hike in the summer. The country is as safe as its mountain cable cars and lifts, not to mention its intricate railroads that run on time, as measured by the best watches in the world, that are all made in Switzerland.

Travel to Switzerland … the best kept secret in Europe. We will help you let the secret get out!

WaterColor Inn & Resort

WaterColor Inn & Resort
Herff Travel Associate, Lindsey Koehl, blogs about her trip!

WaterColor Inn & Resort, located in Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast between the resort towns of Destin and Seaside, (between the larger cities of Pensacola and Panama City) is a quick flight away from the hustle and bustle of San Antonio to a cozy, causally chic, beach resort community, and is not to be passed up.

Last weekend some friends and I travelled to WaterColor for a short weekend getaway. I was initially surprised at just how easy it was to get to WaterColor from San Antonio. With a quick connect through Houston, the flight from there to Panama City Beach was only an hour and 10 minutes. Upon landing we took a rental down scenic highway 30-A, passing other well-known beach communities along the way (such as Seagrove and Seaside).

WaterColor offers 60 luxurious room accommodations as well as 175 one to six room vacation rental homes. Our group of eight settled nicely into our lovely 4-bedroom vacation home in the Park District. The accommodations and fully-furnished, decorative amenities were very impressive, which lived right up to the resort’s 5-star distinction. My personal favorite touch on the home was the beautiful screened in porch and patio and full kitchen.

We were excited to learn too that all guests of the property receive complimentary access to bicycle rentals, resort pools and workout facilities and the lake area water sport equipment. These inclusions make getting around Watercolor easy and enjoyable. After just a 10-minute walk down the lovely landscaped sidewalks, you are in Seaside. Stop there for a famous lobster roll, shrimp and grits or key lime pie and some excellent shopping keepsakes.

If the biking and shopping aren’t your cup of tea, enjoy the beautiful, private white sand beach or try out your skills at one of the three area golf courses, pamper yourself at the InnSpa, practice your swing at the Tennis Center, take a paddleboard or canoe around the lake, or dine at one of the excellent resort restaurants. Whatever your fancy, you can be sure that the experience will exceed expectations. For those of you with children, there are activities galore!

I personally loved being able to enjoy the many different types of vegetation throughout WaterColor. From the pine trees and lush natural vegetation surrounding the lake and park districts, to the well- landscaped gardens and walking paths, to the lovely sand dunes and emerald green beach waters.
